A tool to monitor email access by employees.
Pros: The Mail Access Monitor allows a manager or administrator to understand how the company’s email server is being utilized. This is done through accessing email server logs that provides information about how much email traffic is being generate and by whom (it also supplies information as to where emails are being sent). The tool is compatible with a number of standard email Servers: MDaemon, Kerio MailServer, Merak MailServer, MS Exchange Server, VisNetic MailServer, SendMail, PostFix, QMail, and CommuniGate Pro. Charting of the usage patterns allows for easy analysis offline. Charts provide a wealth of information at a glance – for example it can quickly show which user sends most email, or whether or not most email are for company purposes (by destination) and so on.
Cons: Past editions of this software have had bugs so users beware. Besides in the current version also has problems with the interface. Although its stated function is email monitoring, it does not give equal monitoring across different email servers – it seems to have been optimized for use with CommuniGate Pro. Some emails are plainly missed by the tool. Some users will want more functionality than just monitoring the number of email and want to actual be able to scan emails. But at least there are fewer privacy violations here.
Overall: 3 stars. There are some issues in the current version including the fact that it doesn’t work equally well across different email servers. Interface design is also not up to the mark, for the targeted segment / user this is a serious defect.
